Assemblywoman Barbara Buckley PDF Print E-mail

newerbuckleySpeaker of the Assembly

Clark County

District # 8

Attorney

Speaker Buckley was first elected in 1994. She served as Majority Leader during 2001, 2003 and 2005, the first woman to hold this position.  She was elected Speaker in 2007, also the first woman in this position, and she was re-elected Speaker for the 2009 session.  During her tenure in the legislature, she has chaired the Assembly Commerce Committee, the Nevada Legislative Commission and the Committee on Children, Youth and Families.

Speaker Buckley represents Assembly District 8, a diverse district that includes Chinatown and older, established neighborhoods in central/western Las Vegas.

Because of term limits, Speaker Buckley will be leaving the Assembly at the end of this term. Her commitment and expertise on consumer protection issues particularly the patients bill of rights, creating access to Canadian prescription drugs and stopping predatory lending as well as her work on child welfare issues will be sorely missed.
