Assistant Fire Chief, North Las Vegas Fire Department 

Assemblyman Oceguera was first elected in 2000.  He is the Majority Floor Leader. During the last legislative session, Assemblyman Oceguera served on the Commerce and Labor Committee as well as the Ways and Means Committee.

Located in South Eastern Las Vegas, Assembly District 16 includes portions of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the McCarran International Airport.

During the past session, Assemblyman Oceguera worked with the Secretary of State to streamline business license filing for better efficiency and accountability.

A little more about Assemblyman Oceguera:

 A native Nevadan, John Oceguera was born at St. Mary's Catholic hospital in Reno, on June 2, 1968, and spent most of his childhood years in Fallon.

Ever since he could first remember, John wanted to be a firefighter, and in 1989 he started working for the NAS Fallon Fire Department. Soon he was hired by the North Las Vegas Fire Department, working his way from firefighter, to paramedic, to engineer, and all the way to Captain. In 2008, John earned the position of Assistant Fire Chief.

John received his B.S. in Fire Administration from Cogswell College in 1995, and his Masters in Public Administration from UNLV in 1998. John was one of the first to enter the new William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV and, in the closing days of the 2003 legislative Session, he took an afternoon off to fly back to Las Vegas for graduation ceremonies, receiving his Juris Doctorate in law.

John and his wife Janie are expecting their first child. In his spare time, John enjoys volunteering, outdoor activities and firefighter competitions.
