Assemblyman Harvey Munford

Retired Schoolteacher
Assemblyman Munford was first elected in 2004. Assemblyman
Munford served on the Education, Government Affairs, and Elections, Procedures,
Ethics, and Constitutional Amendments Committees during the last legislative session.
Assemblyman Munford represents Assembly District 6. It is a
unique district that includes the older established neighborhoods of old West
Las Vegas, part of the downtown casino area, and places for community
involvement including Pearson and Doolittle
Community Centers.
As a retired school teacher, Assemblyman Munford is
committed to improving education for every Nevada child. Representing a district that
has been hard hit by the economic downturn, he is also committed to economic
development and job creation.

Assemblyman Munford:
Assemblyman Munford was born in Akron, Ohio.
Assemblyman Munford was the first African-American man to attend Montana State
University at Billings where he received his Masters in
Guidance and Counseling and Political Science. Following a brief career in the
NBA, Assemblyman Munford moved to Las
Vegas.
For more than 36 years, Assemblyman Munford taught World and
U.S History and U.S Government in the Clark County
School District. For 25
years, Assemblyman Munford taught at the College of Southern Nevada.
He has been an active member of several community organizations including the
Sunny Place Homeowners Association and the West Las Vegas Horseback Riding
Club.
Assemblyman Munford and his wife, Viviana, are the proud
parents of five children and several grandchildren. In his spare time,
Assemblyman Munford enjoys horseback riding, watching old western movies,
dancing and playing the organ.
