April 26, 2011
CARSON CITY—Today, the Nevada Assembly passed “Nevada Trades” (A.B. 182) legislation, sponsored by the Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee, which will enable in land port zones in Nevada, capitalizing on an inherent logistics and manufacturing opportunity.
“Nevada Trades will be an absolute boon for our state, bringing exciting new businesses to our state, creating jobs and strengthening our economy,” Commerce and Labor Committee Chair Kelvin Atkinson said. “In addition, this legislation sends a strong message to businesses looking to establish a presence in Nevada that they will be able to work hand in hand with local government and the state to accomplish our shared goals of job creation and economic prosperity.”
Inland port zones are geographic areas created by city or county government to accelerate the creation of new jobs and investment through an emphasis on a logistics supply chain. Inland port zones feature hubs of transportation amenities (road, rail, and air cargo), manufacturing, and logistics companies to expedite the manufacture and distribution of goods. Local government would work with the state to create a fast-track environment at inland port sites to ensure all site location processes are expedited to create jobs.
