Nevada Assembly Democrats Denounce SCOTUS Decision to Jeopardize Progress on Climate Change

Las Vegas, NV – Today, the Republican-appointed Supreme Court continued its onslaught of American civil liberties and protections, doing the bidding of congressional Republicans to undermine the Environmental Protection Agency and the progress made on curbing carbon emissions and climate change. The opinion today by the Supreme Court is part of a string of rulings aimed at thwarting progress made on our climate crisis – in favor of carbon polluting industries. Today’s decision highlights the importance of state legislators as a line of defense against the conservative push to eliminate protections from climate change to reproductive care.

“The ruling today by the Supreme Court is incredibly dangerous,” said Assemblyman Howard Watts “Climate change is already threatening the lives and well-being of all Americans, and Nevada is on the front lines of drought, wildfire and extreme heat. Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, our state can and will continue to be at the forefront in promoting innovative solutions tothe climate crisis, protecting our environment and leading the development of a clean energy economy.”

“I fully condemn the decision by the Supreme Court to strike down the EPA’s effectiveness in combating climate change, an authority granted by congress.” said Assemblywoman Lesley Cohen “Thanks to the bold leadership of Governor Sisolak and legislative Democrats, Nevada has become a national leader in clean energy. We are committed to combating the worst effects of the climate crisis and finding solutions to help build a more sustainable Nevada.”
